The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) encouraged the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) to mark this symbolic day...

Digital Desk: On December 12, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) General Headquarters in Aizawl staged a 'Black Day' in protest of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

This mournful ceremony, attended by numerous student organisations from the northeast, was staged in response to the Rajya Sabha's recent passage of the CAB.

The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) encouraged the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) to mark this symbolic day. The NESO has been outspoken in its opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which was passed by the Rajya Sabha on December 11.

The disputed measure, which has prompted considerable debate and protest across the country, proposes changes to the citizenship requirements, which has sparked alarm among many communities, particularly in the northeastern areas.

The North East Students' Organisation, an umbrella body comprising regional student groups, has frequently expressed its opposition to the bill.
