Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday initiated the first phase of interim financial assistance for families severely impacted by the recent devastating floods across the state. The relief, disbursed directly into beneficiaries' accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, aims to provide immediate and transparent support to those grappling with the aftermath of the natural calamity.
The Chief Minister, addressing the beneficiaries via video conference from Dibrugarh, underscored the state government's unwavering commitment to swiftly aid affected populations and facilitate their recovery. Following this significant launch, a dedicated financial assistance distribution programme was concurrently held at the conference hall of the Bokakhat Co-District Commissioner's Office, efficiently facilitating the direct transfer of funds to local recipients.
In this initial tranche, a total of 146 identified beneficiaries from the Bokakhat constituency, specifically encompassing areas under the Bokakhat and Khumtai revenue circles, received the much-needed financial aid. Each eligible flood-affected family was credited with Rs 15,000, marking the first instalment of the relief package designed to help them rebuild their lives.
Officials confirmed that the comprehensive assessment of losses incurred by other flood-affected families across various districts of Assam is currently underway. The government has assured that all eligible beneficiaries, once identified, will progressively receive financial assistance in subsequent phases, strictly adhering to the prescribed guidelines and ensuring equitable distribution. This initiative highlights the administration's proactive approach to disaster management and citizen welfare.
