Digital Desk: The Meghalaya and Assam Regional Committees had a meeting at the Pinewood Hotel in Shillong on August 28 to discuss the site inspection following the Assembly sessions in September as part of the second round of border negotiations.

Forest Minister and Kamrup Sector Regional Committee Chairman CM Patowary led the Assam side, while Cabinet Minister and West Khasi Hills Regional Committee Chairman Paul Lyngdoh led the Meghalaya side.

According to Lyngdoh, the discussion was productive since the parties focused on the areas of conflict or those where each state has claims and counterclaims.

“To go to the specifics, the two DCs as well as local MDC have been entrusted with the task of preparing a list which will then be taken up for discussions,“ stated Lyngdoh.

He stated that the Regional Committees would visit the areas of disagreement following the September assembly sessions of both states.

He further said, “We will try to cater to 4 or 5 villages and choose a central point as the meeting point and will then go for a site visit at the end of September.”
