Lieutenant General (Retired) Rana Pratap Kalita has been honoured with Assam's highest civilian award, Assam Baibhav on Thursday. 

Digital Desk: The Assam government has awarded the winners of its highest civilian award for the year 2024, honoring various personalities for their exceptional contribution in different areas. The award function has been organised at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International  Auditorium, where the awardees received the awards in a grand ceremony.  

Lieutenant General (Retired) Rana Pratap Kalita has been honoured with Assam's highest civilian award, Assam Baibhav on Thursday. 

Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita hails from Rangia of Assam and was earlier honoured with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal for his outstanding contribution to the Indian Army. 

He is the first Assamese army officer to be appointed as a corps commander and the second one from the Northeast.

Additionally, six people have received the Assam Saurav Award, the state's second-highest civilian award. The winners are:

Dr. Bappi Paul (Hojai)
Dr. Purabi Saikia (Lakhimpur)
Dwipen Baruah (Kamrup)
Hemanta Dutta (Darrang)
Uma Chetry (Golaghat)

Thirteen prominent personalities have received Assam Gaurav Award. The names include:

Meenakshi Das (Kamrup)
Parthib Sundar Gogoi (Sivasagar)
Dhirendra Nath Pal (Dhubri)
Haridas Das (Barpeta)
Binong Teron (Karbi Anglong)
Nazrul Haque (Sribhumi)
Biswajit Bora (Jorhat)
Bharat Kalita (Bajali)
Barlangfa Narzary (Kokrajhar)
Ram Sashoni (Dibrugarh)
Upamanyu Borkakoty (Sivasagar)
David Pratim Gogoi (Kamrup)
