Digital Desk: Two people from Assam were injured on Sunday after the SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed in Cuttack district, Odisha. The incident took place at around 12 p.m. near Nirgundi, derailing 11 coaches on their journey from Bengaluru to Kamakhya station in Guwahati.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that no casualties were reported from Assam. He added that the injured people from Assam are currently receiving treatment and are out of danger.

The injured individuals are identified as Willson Digal from Udalguri and Amiran Nisha from Baksa.

Taking to X, CM Sarma posted, "Sharing an update on the incident involving Train 12551. There are no casualties from Assam. 2 persons from the State - Willson Digal of Udalguri and Amiran Nisha of Baksa are inured and undergoing treatment. Both are out of danger."

One person died and several people were injured on Sunday when the Kamakhya-bound train derailed near Nirgundi of Cuttack district, Odisha, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
