Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari failed to appear before West Bengal CID in connection with the probe into the death of his bodyguard, claiming that he was busy.

BJP’s Nandigram MLA, Mr. Adhikari, was called by the CID to its headquarters at Bhawani Bhawan in Kolkata, in connection to the death of his bodyguard Subhobrata Chakraborty.

"He mailed us around 9.30 am, mentioning some political engagements due to which he was unable to come and meet our officers," a CID officer said.

A meeting was held by the CID after receiving Mr. Adhikari’s mail to chalk out the possible next steps into the investigation, including another summons that would be sent to him.

Mr. Adhikari was not available for comments, and a CID team has already reached his residence in connection with the probe.

Mr. Chakraborty allegedly shot himself at the security camp outside Mr. Adhikari’s residence with his service revolver in October 2018.

His wife Suparna Kanjilal Chakraborty filed a fresh police complaint on July 9, sensing foul play behind her husband’s death. The case was reopened as she raised suspicion over police claims in 2018.

So far 15 people have been questioned by the CBI that includes 11 policemen.
Meanwhile, a few weeks ago Suvendu Adhikari along with dozens of BJP workers were arrested in Kolkata for violating COVID-19 protocols during a protest in the heart of the city.
