Mumbai: Security was beefed up outside writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar’s residence in Mumbai on Monday after an apology was demanded by a Maharashtra BJP MLA over his remarks where he allegedly compared the RSS with the Taliban.

A competent police bandobast was placed outside his residence in the Juhu area near the ISKCON temple. Security personnel, including women constables, were deployed outside his home.
Recently, in a news channel, Akhtar had said that the right-wing all over the world have an uncanny similarity.

"The Taliban want an Islamic country. These people want to make a Hindu Rashtra," the writer said without naming the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The Shiv Sena said Akhtar was completely wrong in comparing RSS with the Taliban.

BJP MLA and state party spokesperson Ram Kadam condemned Akhtar’s remark and said no film involving Akhtar will be allowed to be screened across the country until he apologizes to Sangh functionaries over his comments.
