Digital Desk: On Tuesday in Delhi an important scheme was announced regarding road accident victims after a meeting chaired by Nitin Gadkari with ministers from all the state
Government has provided for cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims, which will be provided toll of upto Rs 1.5 lakh for not less than 7 days treatment. It further stated that administration would bear the cost of the treatment if the authorities are informed about the accident within 24hours
Besides, Shri Gadkari said that the government of India will pay an ex-gratia amount of rupees two lakh to the families of deceased in cases of hit-and- run accidents “Families of the deceased, families of injured affecting by victims in the hit-and-run will also be entitled to Rs 2 lakh,” he said.
Focusing on road safety as the major concern, Gadkari mentioned that in 2024, a total of 1.80 lakh people lost their lives in the road accidents and 30,000 of them lost their lives for not using helmets. Furthermore, it was stated that about 66 percent of these incidences occurred in people between the ages of 18 to 34.
Gadkari also suggested better safety rules should be implemented around educational institutions. It is stated that 10000 children had died because of poorly planned exit and entry zones around schools and colleges. Moreover, rules have been for both autorickshaws and minibuses to reduce death.
The announcement came after, Gadkari presided over a meeting of transport ministers of all the states and union territories in the country held at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi . The meeting was held to promote consultative relations between the union and the state governments and transport policies was to be on the agenda.
