The arrests follow allegations of corruption linked to the awarding of contracts and bill clearances

Digital Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrests two people that including Prayas Chakravorty  who works as a Deputy General Manager of Oil India Ltd (OIL), Duliajan in Assam, and a Managing Director from a Noida-based private organization, for accepting a ₹7 lakh bribe. The arrests follow allegations of corruption linked to the awarding of contracts and bill clearances.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a case against four accused on  3rd May, 2025, that included the DGM of OIL and the Managing Director, along with the DGM (Sales & Marketing) of the private company, along with the private company itself, and unspecified public servants. The public servant conspired with other people  to accept bribes, which led to substantial losses for the Union Exchequer through contract awards and billing expeditions.

It was alleged that Chakravorty demanded  70 grams of gold ornaments for himself and for an unnamed government official. Instead of gold, he provided cash worth seven lakhs to the executive due to the difficulty. The private firm's Managing Director reportedly arranged the bribe money

The ₹3.73 lakh received as bribe payment led Chakravorty to purchase gold coins from Noida shops, after which he took  the remaining ₹3.34 lakh to his home. Through a well-timed operation, the CBI intercepted Chakravorty while he had both bribe cash and purchasing documents for the gold in his hands.

The security services arrested both accused, and both will appear before the Special CBI Court in Ghaziabad. CBI conducted searches  operation at multiple locations across Delhi, Noida, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia where they obtained more than ₹30 lakh in cash and gold jewelry and mobile devices along with incriminating documentation.

The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected.
