  • New Delhi has affirmed its highest commitment to assisting Assam in the wake of devastating floods, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally assuring Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of comprehensive support for relief and rehabilitation efforts

New Delhi has accorded the highest priority to the severe flood situation gripping Upper Assam, pledging extensive support for ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and long-term rebuilding initiatives. This assurance came directly from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Chief Minister Sarma, sharing details of their discussion on Saturday, revealed that Prime Minister Modi had called to personally assess the prevailing flood conditions across the state. The Prime Minister conveyed his profound condolences regarding the loss of lives and property caused by the calamity, emphasizing the Central government's commitment to treating this crisis with utmost urgency.

During the call, Chief Minister Sarma provided the Prime Minister with a comprehensive update on the measures being undertaken by the state administration. He detailed the extensive efforts in progress to reach every affected family and mitigate the impact of the floods. Prime Minister Modi, in turn, sought specific information on the scale of devastation, the current status of relief operations, and the significant challenges being encountered on the ground by state agencies.

The Centre's proactive engagement underscores a collaborative approach to disaster management, aimed at alleviating the suffering of flood-affected communities in Assam. This development precedes the expected arrival of an inter-ministerial Central team, which is scheduled to visit Assam to conduct a thorough on-ground assessment of the situation and further determine the scope of required assistance.
