Digital Desk: With a view to Cyclone Dana, which is predicted to hit the coast of Odisha between October 24 and 25, the NDRF has planned and released 56 teams into the following states in India. The states are Odisha and West Bengal, where officials are keeping precautionary measures to deal with the heavy rainfall and flooding. NDRF Deputy Inspector General (Operations), Mohsen Shahedi, further said that the teams have made and are equipped with basic flood rescue tools such as pole and tree cutters, inflatable boats, and first aid kits.

IMD and other agencies have flagged Odisha and West Bengal as regions of special interest with high risk of storm surges. In all, 20 teams of NDRF have been deployed in Odisha and 17 in West Bengal. Of these, some teams are in standby mode and are to be deployed as the dynamics unfold.

More teams have been placed in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, where heavy rains  and floods are expected after the cyclone hits the coast. Currently, the NDRF is particularly working with the local state disaster response forces for the evacuation of affected vulnerable people from the coastal areas.

Cyclone Dana was the fourth cyclone of the season being named by Qatar according to the tropical cyclone naming list. So far, authorities are awaiting the arrival of the cyclone, the NDRF stays prepared, and reserve teams are being kept on standby
