Before the demolition, officials had issued notices to the affected families, instructing them to vacate the premises.

Digital Desk: Today, the administration performed a massive demolition operation at Birubari Guwahati which resulted in the demolition of 11 houses together with a substantial multi-story building because they were on government land which had been illegally occupied.

Approximately, 25 days before the demolition process, the  officials distributed official notices that instructed the families who vacate their premises. The operation started early in the morning with multiple bulldozers accompanied by significant police forces executing the eviction process. After serving the final notice on Thursday, the demolition drive was carried out today.

Notably, 45 out of  69 families petitioned the High Court to seek  help in  avoiding the  eviction. The court supported the administration, allowing the demolition to proceed.

This drive is part of an ongoing effort to remove unauthorized occupations from public property. The land reclamation operation continues despite raising worries from those displaced as authorities claimed that the action was necessary to reclaim illegally occupied land.
