Replying to a query by the Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, Minister Bora said that 82,751.86 hectares of land spanning across 17 districts of Assam has been occupied by four neighbouring states- Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.
Digital Desk: Even after endless efforts to stop boundary conflicts, over 82,000 hectares of land belonging to Assam has been encroached by four neighbouring states. Assam Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora on Wednesday provided the information at the Assam Assembly session.
Replying to a query by the Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, Minister Bora said that 82,751.86 hectares of land spanning across 17 districts of Assam has been occupied by four neighbouring states- Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.
As per the state government's data, Nagaland has encroached 59,490.21 hectares of land, Meghalaya has encroached 3,441.86 hectares, Arunachal Pradesh has encroached 16,144.01 hectares and 3675.78 hectares of land occupied by Mizoram.
Minister Atul Bora said that the affected districts are Golaghat, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Charaideo, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Cachar, Kamrup, West Karbi Anglong, South Salmara Mancachar, Sribhumi, and Hailakandi.
Bora stated that if proper demarcation of land had been conducted during the separation of the states from Assam, such border disputes would not have occurred.
