Digital Desk: A young woman narrowly escaped a harrowing ordeal in Dispur on Sunday night after being allegedly abducted and assaulted by an auto-rickshaw driver.
The victim had boarded the vehicle near Novotel Hotel, intending to travel to Hotel Bluemoon.
However, the driver, identified as Monowar Hussain, diverted from the intended route and took her to a secluded location.
At the isolated spot, Hussain allegedly assaulted the woman and damaged her mobile phone during the struggle.
The victim managed to escape the scene and subsequently filed an FIR on Monday morning.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, police arrested Monowar Hussain and seized the auto-rickshaw involved, bearing registration number AS-01TC 5416.
A thorough investigation into the incident is currently underway.
