Digital Desk: Danesh Kumar, a Hindu lawmaker in Pakistan, has accused his colleagues of encouraging him to convert to Islam and has urged them that they should not propagate Islam to him. On Thursday, he addressed the Senate (Upper House of the Pakistani Parliament) on the country's current food crisis, saying, "My coworkers frequently push me to recite the 'Kalima' and convert to Islam. Make the criminal Muslims preach Islam first, and then ask me to do so," he said.

Danesh Kumar, an elected member from Balochistan, said it is regrettable that the political leadership is not taking action against food hoarders in the market.

He also slammed former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government for the country's unprecedented food crisis. Speaking about the nation's ongoing inflation crisis, Danesh Kumar said, "It is a source of sorrow that food costs have increased in the holy month of Ramadan."

Danesh's remarks come in the wake of recent reports of crowd crush situations in which individuals waiting for food were killed in stampedes during the distribution of free rations. As many as 16 people have died this Ramadan as citizens desperately try to acquire free wheat flour and food goods amid record-high inflation.

Danesh, the leader of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), has been the most outspoken senator in Pakistan against coercive conversions of minorities (Hindu and Christian) to Islam.
