The group allegedly rented a Mahindra Thar, bearing Registration no AS 01FQ 0969.

Digital Desk: In a significant operation against vehicle lifters in the state, Guwahati police arrested three Manipuri individuals in connection with a car-theft racket targeting self-drive rental vehicles.

The group allegedly rented a Mahindra Thar, bearing Registration no AS 01FQ 0969. However, they kidnapped the driver and changed the license plate of the vehicle.

Since then, the vehicle was missing and the driver was untraceable. They allegedly operate by taking four-wheelers on rent from different parts and selling them in Manipur.

Following the incident, a case was registered in the Dispur police station.

During the investigation, a total of three individuals have been arrested from Tinsukia, who originally belong to Manipur.

The arrested individuals were Akoijam Universe (27), Achom Winner Meitei (26), and Thomnojam Samananda Singh (25) of Imphal East, Manipur. 

They were brought to the Dispur police station for investigation related to the car theft case.

Further investigation is underway.
