Digital Desk: A fire broke out in the Golai area of Digboi, triggering panic among localpeople .The blaze erupted in a large stack of hay stored at the residence of Shafik Sheikh in Ward No. 20. Neighbours and local residents initially made desperate attempts to douse the flames using water from wells before fire tenders arrived at the scene.
Firefighters from the state Fire and Emergency Services, along with personnel from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), reached the spot and worked to control the fire. After nearly an hour of continuous effort, the blaze was finally brought under control.
Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that it may have originated from incense sticks lit outside a nearby religious gathering, located close to the haystack.
The incident caused widespread alarm in the area, especially as many residents live in close proximity to Digboi DPS Road and the railway line. Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to determine the precise cause of the fire.
