A high alert was sounded in Delhi, and all city government employees' leaves were cancelled

Digital Desk: New Delhi is placed on high alert as the situation between India and Pakistan deteriorated, spurring a wide range of emergency action country-wide. In the wake of intelligence of cross-border shelling that has hit, among others, Jammu, security has been tightened aggressively, and readiness has been enhanced immediately.

On Thursday night, people who visited the famous war memorial, which is a popular public gathering spot,  India Gate, were asked to vacate the place while movement in that area was checked. Police issued public appeals advising people to withdraw from the area as a precautionary measure. 
In a late evening order, the Delhi government’s Services Department revoked all the leaves for city government employees until further notification. Officials referred to the need for maximum administrative preparedness in view of the growing situation.

An official from the New Delhi district confirmed that a review meeting was held to assess the preparedness of both the Health Department and the Disaster Management Authority. Key focus areas included medical response capabilities and emergency coordination.

Security has been stepped up substantially across the capital. More paramilitary divisions have been dispersed at key points of infrastructure and government buildings. Police check on its expedited, especially at points of entry into Delhi, for the incoming vehicles to be done to the hilt.
Senior police officers,  including special commissioners from various zones, are carrying out meetings with deputy commissioners of all 15 districts to ensure coordinated law enforcement and emergency planning.

The capital remains on alert as officials continue to closely follow the situation and advise the public to remain calm while working with authorities.
