Digital Desk: Assam Police on Monday busted two inter-state vehicle lifters' gangs, arresting 6 individuals and recovering 4 four-wheelers and 13 motorbikes in two different operations. A senior police officer said that a complaint was received on March 11 regarding the theft of a motorcycle.

During the investigation, the police team recovered the motorcycle and other stolen motorcycles. The police arrested six accused, who were involved with different vehicle lifters' gangs. As per the report, the arrested individuals were from different areas of the Manipur and Kamrup districts of Assam.

Explaining the modus operandi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Anurag Sarma said that the gang members travelled to Guwahati by flight. They would steal the bikes and transfer them to Manipur's Thoubal via public transport within 48-72 hours of stealing. Following this, the motorcycles would reach the international border of Myanmar. The police officer said that the lifters would steal around 4 bikes a day.

The investigation remains ongoing to detect whether more people are involved with the network.
