Digital Desk: Roz Ali alias Ashik Ali, the prime accused in the brutal murder of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) leader Madhurjya Barman, was killed in a police encounter in Mukalmua after allegedly attempting to escape custody.
Authorities reportedly opened fire when Roz Ali tried to flee while in police custody.
The incident follows a horrific crime on the evening of May 31 in Gangapur, Nalbari, which has sent shockwaves across Assam.
Madhurjya was fatally stabbed and his cousin, Mridu Mudra Deka, critically injured in a brutal attack while travelling to home on a scooter.
According to police, Madhurjya sustained severe wounds to his head and neck during the attack.
He was rushed to Nalbari Medical College and Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Mridu Mudra, who suffered life-threatening injuries, remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
