Digital Desk: A tragic boat accident took place at the Gorakshatari-Nadia Ferry Ghat in Nalbari's Barkhetri area on the Brahmaputra River on June 19, leaving several passengers missing after the boat capsized in the river.
Concerns are growing as reports suggest that numerous students may be among the missing.
The boat, which was travelling from Peradhara Ferry Ghat, was overcrowded with approximately 100 passengers, including school and college students.
The operator attempted to cross the river despite the excessive load, leading to the devastating incident.
Rescue operations are underway, with local residents using motorized boats to search for missing people.
Thankfully, several individuals have been rescued alive from the water.
However, the lack of safety measures on the boat has drawn significant criticism as there were no life jackets provided.
The Internal Waterways Department reportedly had no record of the passengers on the boat.
Local people, police, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have launched a rescue operation to locate the missing individuals.
