External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S Jaishankar posted on X, "#OperationBrahma gets underway. First tranche of humanitarian aid from India has reached the Yangon Airport in Myanmar."

Digital Desk: India launched 'Operation Brahma' on Saturday after devastating earthquakes hit Myanmar that claimed more than 1,000 lives, and around 2,376 people injured on March 28.

Sharing images of the humanitarian aid sent by the Indian government, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X that Indian Air Force C-130 J aircraft carrying approximately 15 tonnes of relief material, including blankets, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, sleeping bags, solar lamps, food packets, generators, and essential medicines, landed in Yangon.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S Jaishankar posted on X, "#OperationBrahma gets underway. First tranche of humanitarian aid from India has reached the Yangon Airport in Myanmar."

He added, "A search and rescue team and medical team are also accompanying this flight. We will continue to monitor developments, and more aid will follow."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed deep concern over the emergency situation in Myanmar and Thailand and assured all possible assistance on Friday.

Six devastating earthquakes jolted Myanmar on Friday, with strong tremors felt in Thailand, India, Bangladesh and China. One of the earthquakes of 7.7 magnitude jolted central Myanmar at around 1 pm, leading to widespread destruction in the area.

The impact of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake was so massive that it led the Myanmar government to declare an emergency and shut down metro, railway and airport services. Following the earthquake, electricity and internet were down in several parts of Myanmar.

Several buildings, religious shrines collapsed in Myanmar's Mandalay, and roads developed cracks in the capital city Naypyidaw.
