During his visit to the state's Kumaon region, he will speak at a public gathering and lay the cornerstone for several construction projects.

Digital Desk: The day-long visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the border state of Uttarakhand started on Thursday with a puja at Parvati Kund and a darshan of the Adi Kailash peak, a shrine to Lord Shiva.

During his visit to the state's Kumaon region, he will speak at a public gathering and lay the cornerstone for several construction projects.

Modi performed a 'aarti' and blew the conch shell at the Shiva-Parvati temple located along the banks of Parvati Kund in Jolingkong while dressed in a traditional tribal attire replete with a hat and 'ranga' (upper body cloth).

Local priests Virendra Kutiyal and Gopal Singh assisted him. He also took a brief moment to sit in meditation in front of Jolingkong's Adi Kailash summit with his hands folded.

From there, Modi proceeded to the border village of Gunji, where he spoke with residents and security forces and viewed a display of regional goods and artifacts. Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister, was with him. They received a nice customary welcome.

The prime minister will depart from Gunji after his event and travel 15 kilometres to the ancient Shiva temple Jageshwar Dham.

The prime minister will perform puja, parikrama around the jyotirlinga, and meditation at Jageshwar Dham before enjoying a lunch of Kumaoni cuisines.

Then, before delivering a speech to the public at the S. S. Waldia Sports Stadium, he will travel back to Pithoragarh to officially launch and lay the cornerstone for development projects worth Rs. 4,200 crore.

Cultural groups from the Kumaon region will greet Prime Minister Modi along a six-km route that has been rebuilt and is decked with murals and paintings as he travels from the Naini Saini airport to the location of the public meeting.
