Students reported that they requested the college administration to remove the CCTV cameras from the girls' common room...

Digital Desk: On Tuesday, tensions escalated at West Guwahati Commerce College in Maligaon, Guwahati, as students decided to protest the installation of CCTV cameras in the girls' common room. The outraged students asked today that the camera be removed immediately, calling the move a violation of privacy.

Students told the media that they asked the college administration to remove the CCTV cameras from the girls' common room, and that applications were also sent to the principal on the matter, but that their requests were ignored.

"We don't just sit and relax in the common room, some students come from a very long distance, and sometimes we also change here, The feeling of being under surveillance is uncomfortable," a student explained.

Aside from other issues, the students opposed the closure of the campus gate because many students come from outstation. They have been unable to attend classes as a result of the shutdown of the gate.
