Digital Desk: In a shocking incident in Guwahati, a man was detained on GS Road (Walford)  on Tuesday (25th Feb) evening after he allegedly attempted to dispose of a newborn’s body in the Brahmaputra River.


The accused has been identified as Mumuruj Hussain, a resident of Dhing. According to sources, Hussain hired a Rapido bike taxi and offered the rider ₹50 extra in offline payment to take him towards the river.


The Rapido rider, identified as Rubul Das, later revealed that while they were on their way, Hussain informed him that he was carrying the body of a deceased newborn wrapped in polythene. Sensing something suspicious, the driver acted swiftly and brought the matter to light, leading to the accused being apprehended before he could carry out the alleged plan.


Police have taken Hussain into custody, and marathon interrogation is currently underway at Dispur Police Station.


Preliminary information suggests that the baby was reportedly stillborn at a private hospital. Sources further claim that Mumuruj Hussain is the father of the deceased newborn.


An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
