Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday rejected the recent border clash with Meghalaya as part of the Assam-Meghalaya border conflict.
When asked about it, CM Sarma, who was in New Delhi to attend a program commemorating the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan, told reporters.
"This does not fall within the purview of the border issue between Assam and Meghalaya. This is a conflict between the Assam Police and the people of a village in Meghalaya."
Assam's chief minister condemned the state police for their actions. "Assam Police should not have been so aggressive in dealing with the incident. The cops fired more shots than were necessary," said CM Sarma.
"An investigation into the incident has been ordered. "I would personally request that central investigative authorities such as the CBI or NIA take up the inquiry," he added.
It should be mentioned that an incident of firing happened on Tuesday morning between Assam Forest officials and unknown miscreants at Mukhrow. The incident reportedly happened when the Forest Party attempted to halt a truck transporting illicit timber.
