Digital Desk: A robbery has rocked the Gauhati University after thieves broke into the on-campus residence of Arun Kumar Dutta, an assistant professor in the Botany Department. The incident occurred on 5th July, while the family was away in Kolkata. The CCTV footage of  5th July and 6th July seemed normal, but after 7th July 7 the cameras stopped working, which was suspicious.

On Saturday, the break-in was discovered. The burglars had broken in behind the house and stolen a lot of gold jewellery worth more than 8 lakhs and other valuables. Currently, police of the Jalukbari police station and a unit of CID have arrived at the spot and started an investigation.

The incident has raised serious questions about the security measures within the university premises. The theft had breached the security and had shocked the university staff and students equally; the issue of better surveillance of the campuses stands out to be highlighted.
