When the motorcycle was later taken to a garage, it was found that the tank contained petrol mixed with water
Digital Desk: Last night, a tense situation unfolded at the Nayara Energy Mahabir Automobiles petrol pump in Moterjhar, Dhubri, following allegations that petrol was being sold mixed with water. The incident sparked unrest among customers present at the pump.
According to reports, the owner of a motorcycle with registration AS17J 1970 filled petrol at the Nayara Energy Mahabir Automobiles pump and, upon reaching Gauripur, noticed the bike broke down. When the motorcycle was later taken to a garage, it was found that the tank contained petrol mixed with water. The rider returned to the pump with the contaminated fuel, which escalated tensions on-site.
On receiving the news, police and a team from the supply department rushed to the petrol pump. The supply department collected samples of the petrol to verify whether it contained water.
This is not the first time complaints have been lodged against this petrol pump. The Nayara Energy Mahabir Automobiles pump, established along the National Highway in Moterjhar two years ago, has faced repeated allegations of irregularities. People note that the pump is in a state of disrepair and has long been a concern for local residents.
The key issue now is whether the supply department’s investigation confirms the presence of water in the petrol. The authorities’ response to the repeated complaints against the poorly maintained pump will be closely watched, as locals demand accountability and stricter action to prevent such incidents in the future.
The incident underscores the importance of vigilance and timely intervention to ensure fuel quality and protect consumer rights in the region.
