Digital Desk: A road accident at around 10:30 AM today in Paltan Bazar, Guwahati, claimed the life of a two-and-a-half-year-old child, triggering grief and tension in the area.As per reports, the toddler was fatally hit by a Mahindra Thar. The vehicle, reportedly new and without a registration number, has been seized by the police. The driver of the Thar has been identified as Mintu Ali.
The toddler’s body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for necessary procedures.
Eyewitnesses stated that the driver of a Maruti Suzuki Swift stepped out in an attempt to save the child. However, in the aftermath of the accident, an agitated crowd vandalised the Swift and physically assaulted its driver.
The Swift driver, identified as Digambar Deka, was reportedly attacked by the mob despite not being directly responsible for the accident.
Scenes of deep grief were witnessed at the site, with family members of the victim breaking down in anguish. One distraught relative was heard crying, “We don’t want anything, we don’t want any compensation from anyone, we just want the child back,” highlighting the emotional devastation caused by the tragedy.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to restore order, even as locals and the bereaved family demand justice for their child.
