Digital Desk: In Guwahati, several open drains across different parts of the city continue to pose a serious hazard to residents. Despite the risks, authorities have taken minimal measures, in some cases placing only bamboo sticks as makeshift warnings instead of ensuring proper safety arrangements.

The danger has intensified amid artificial flood in the city, after  19th April flood,  which has already claimed four lives. Open drains, left uncovered, have become potential death traps, raising concerns among locals.

In the Ambari area, one such exposed drain has alarmed residents. Locals have tied bamboo poles around it to signal danger, but the lack of permanent safety measures has increased the risk of accidents.

Guwahatians warn that a major mishap could occur at any moment if immediate action is not taken to cover the drains and ensure public safety.
