The historical site that attracts hundreds of visitors daily, which has been submerged, causes concern among locals, conservation groups, and tourists.

Digital Desk: One of the oldest amphitheaters in Asia and a proud symbol of Assam's historical monuments, Rang Ghar has been surrounded by water for the last three days due to early monsoon showers.

Since March 17, the front yard of the 18th-century amphitheater has been submerged due to intermittent rain, exposing management lapses. Despite the heritage significance of Assam's rich cultural legacy, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has failed drastically to provide basic water management measures.

At a time when the state government is pushing for Sivasagar's recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, how can the people of the historic district hope to gain heritage site status in the future?

The Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia urged the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage's (INTACH) intervention for the conservation of the historical treasures of Ahom-era, including Rang Ghar, Talatal Ghar, and other significant sites in Assam.

The historical site that attracts hundreds of visitors daily, which has been submerged, causes concern among locals, conservation groups, and tourists. Expressing deep concern over the poor drainage infrastructure, a local tour operator said that the waterlogging has disrupted the tourists from visiting the beautiful and historical site. He said that it was sad to witness the historical site in this condition.

Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad Assam (TAYPA) president, Diganta Tamuly alleged that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is interested in producing more revenue than giving importance to the infrastructure of the monument.
