Digital desk: Anne Hathaway announced and confirmed on Instagram that ‘The Princess Diaries 3’ is on the way to the audience. Nearly 25 years after the first premiere of the Princess Diaries franchise, the third is officially in the works. Anne Hathaway is yet again ready to play the role of Mia Thermopolis, princess of Genovia.
The protagonist of the iconic film released in 2001 and its sequel in 2004 will reintroduce her character as a high school student who inherits the title of princess of Genovia. The project is in the works at Disney; moreover, talented screenwriter Adele Lim, who wrote rewarding, scripts like Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon plays a huge role.
In a statement, Anne Hathaway expressed that she is excited to be shooting in Genovia and thanked her fans and the makers of the movie. Lim also expressed her excitement and gratitude to carry on the beloved story that focused on women’s rights and how both of the previous movies touched millions of hearts
around the world.
This film remained among the most popular films for years since it is based on the Princess Diaries novel written by Meg Cabot. With filming expected to begin in 2025, while Hathaway is the only confirmed cast member for the third film, several of her former co-stars have expressed their excitement to return to the franchise if given the opportunity.
