New Delhi: A woman from Laxmi Nagar, Delhi, was gang-raped by three men in a car in Uttar Pradesh who offered her a lift.

The incident took place in Sabalpur village in Nangal area when the woman was returning after attending a friend’s wedding on September 14.

The 29-year-old woman alleged that the police refused to register her FIR after the incident and turned her away several times.

However, after the order of the Bijnor superintendent of police, a case was filed on September 17.

The survivor told Times of India, “For three days, I visited the thana, but the FIR was not filed. It was only after the intervention of the Bijnor superintendent of police that a case was registered on Friday evening.”

In her FIR, the woman stated, after attending a friend’s marriage in Sabalpur village, she was waiting for a bus towards Bijnor city. “A car with three men offered me a lift. I accept the lift as I wanted to reach the city at the earliest.” the woman told Times of India.

Further, she added that the accused stopped the vehicle at a deserted place and gang-raped her at knifepoint.

“The three men fled from the spot when a farmer saw them and rushed towards them.” she added.

The farmer identified all the three accused and informed her friend about the incident.

“I had injuries on my body. My friend accompanied me to the Nangal police station, but policemen told us to go away. It was only after the order of the Bijnor SP and involvement of a right-wing organization that anFIR was registered on September 17.” she stated.

Bijnor SP Dharamveer Singh stated TOI, the survivor’s medical examination, was conducted on Friday, and her statement was recorded before a magistrate on Saturday.

The three accused have been booked under sections 376 D (gang rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

However, the family of one of the accused claimed that the woman falsely entrapped him due to political rivalry.
