The wrestler-turned-athlete was offered three choices under the state government's sports policy: a cash prize of Rs 4 crore, a 'Group A' government job, or a plot in Haryana.
Vinesh decided to accept the cash reward of Rs 4 crore from the state government.

Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that the 30-year-old Phogat would be treated and  honoured like a silver medalist.

In the 2024 Paris Olympics, Vinesh was disqualified in the final for being overweight in the 50 kg category. Disheartened by the disqualification, she announced her retirement from wrestling.

Later, she contested in the Haryana Assembly Elections from Julana as a Congress candidate. She successfully won the election and became the MLA of the Julana constituency.

During the Budget session of the State Assembly in March, 2025, Vinesh reminded CM Saini of his promise to treat and honour her like a silver medalist.
