Digital Desk: Between 2018 and 2020, the Ministry of Home Affairs notified the Rajya Sabha that 9,140 people committed suicide due to unemployment while over 16000 people committed suicide due to bankruptcy or indebtedness, while . On 2020, the year a lockdown was imposed in the country due to COVID-19, and large-scale job losses and economic slowdown were documented in various industries, 9,140 people died due to unemployment, the most considerable number of such cases — 3,548 — were registered. According to Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home, 5,213 persons committed suicide as a result of bankruptcy or indebtedness in 2020, 5,908 in 2019, and 4,970 in 2018. In response to a written query, he stated that 3,548 persons committed suicide due to unemployment in 2020, 2,851 in 2019, and 2,741 in 2018. Also Read: Hijab Row: RSS Muslim Wing Supports Karnataka Girl In response to a question from Sukhram Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, the Minister said the government had launched a number of employment and income-generation programmes for citizens, including the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana (ABRY), which incentivizes employers to create new jobs while also providing social security benefits and restoring employment.  “The National Career Service (NCS) Project for job seekers and employers for job-matching in a dynamic, efficient and responsive manner has a repository of career content for job seekers,” it said.
