The poachers, believed to have illicitly crossed the Brahmaputra River by boat, mercilessly killed the rhino and severed its horn. Suspected to have occurred on Sunday evening, forest officials found the tragic scene during routine patrols the following morning.
Prompt action ensued with senior officers, including the Field Officer of the Assam Forest Department, arriving promptly.
An immediate operation was launched to apprehend the culprits.
