Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit today (November 1)  Morbi, Gujarat, where a suspension bridge over the Machchhu river collapsed on Sunday evening, killing 141 people. The Gujarat chief minister's office has confirmed that PM Modi will visit the site on Tuesday afternoon.

PM Modi is already in Gujarat. The Prime Minister attended the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations on Monday and paid tribute to Sardar Patel at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia. "I am in Kevadia, but my heart goes out to those who died in the Morbi bridge collapse tragedy," the prime minister said during his emotional speech at the event.

He stated that artistes from all across the country had gone to Kevadia to perform traditional dances, but the event had to be cancelled due to the Morbi bridge tragedy.

On Monday night, the prime minister presided over a meeting and urged officials to provide all the assistance necessary to people touched by the tragedy. PM Modi was updated on the relief and rescue efforts at the disaster site during the meeting at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar. He emphasized the need for those affected by the disaster to get all available support.

Along with other high officials, Gujarat DGP Ashish Bhatia, Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, and Gujarat's chief minister Bhupendra Patel attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, nine people have been arrested in connection with the Morbi bridge collapse. Four of those detained worked for the Oreva company, which was in charge of managing the Morbi suspension bridge. The police have launched an investigation into the "agencies" in charge of repairing and maintaining the Morbi bridge.

"Nine people have been detained in the Morbi bridge collapse case. They include two managers and two ticket booking clerks of the Oreva group that was managing the bridge," Rajkot Range IG Ashok Yadav told the press.

The CCTV footage showing the exact moment the bridge collapsed went viral on social media. The video shows a large number of individuals on the bridge who then plummeted into the river when the bridge collapsed. Five days prior to the incident, the Morbi bridge had reopened after being closed for eight months for repairs.

After the tragedy, teams from the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy carried out rescue operations alongside local personnel.
