The Chief Minister's convoy was en route to Jiribam, where recent unrest had escalated following the murder of an individual on June 6. Biren Singh had scheduled his visit to the region for Tuesday.


Digital Desk: The convoy of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh was attacked by unidentified militants in Kangpokpi district on Monday. The incident occurred as the security team of Manipur Police was en route to Jiribam district when they were ambushed by armed assailants who opened fire on them. 

The exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in injuries to one security personnel identified as Moirangthem Ozes, who was promptly taken to a nearby hospital.
 
As per information from the Chief Minister's office, the convoy was traveling from Imphal to Jiribam district via National Highway-37 when it was targeted in an attack around 10:30 am.

It may be mentioned that the incident in Jiribam resulted in the destruction of approximately 70 residences, including several government buildings, and forced hundreds of residents to flee the area.
