DMK MP absent from Lok Sabha 'mistakenly' suspended, govt clarifies after row

Digital Desk: In a surprising turn of events, DMK leader SR Parthiban’s name was among the 14 Opposition MPs suspended from Lok Sabha for the remaining period of Winter Session on Thursday for disrupting House proceedings. The government, however, swiftly clarified that Parthiban's inclusion was a result of 'mistaken identity,' acknowledging that he wasn't even present in the House but in Chennai at the time of suspension.

Pralhad Joshi, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, admitted the error, attributing it to a misidentification. Subsequently, a request was made to the Speaker to rectify the situation, and the Speaker promptly accepted the request.

This suspension of Opposition MPs, a total of 14—13 from Lok Sabha and one from Rajya Sabha—stemmed from their protests demanding a government statement on the Parliament security breach.

Notably, nine suspended MPs belong to Congress, two to CPM, one to DMK, and one to CPI.

The incident sheds light on the intricacies of parliamentary proceedings and the importance of accurate identification in disciplinary actions.
