Digital Desk: A terrorist was gunned down after a fresh encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Nader Tral area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning.
Two other terrorists were also trapped in the area, as per report. The three terrorists were identified as Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani, and Yawar Ahmad Bhat.
All three of them are Pulwama residents and among the 14 active terrorists whose list was released after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that took the lives of 26 civilians in the Baisaran valley of J&K on April 22.
Acting swiftly on specific intelligence input, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in Awantipora, South Kashmir.
The encounter erupted after security personnel visited the suspected hideout, and the terrorists started firing.
Taking to X, the Kashmir Police confirmed the encounter and said that police and security forces are on their duty and further details will be released shortly.
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army also posted on X that based on specific intelligence input from the Intelligence agency, a Cordon and search Operation was launched by the Indian Army, J&K Police, and Srinagar CRPF on May 15. Vigilance troops observed suspicious activity and, when challenged, terrorists opened fire, causing a gunfight, it added.
The encounter broke out two days after a similar encounter that killed 3 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists by the Indian Army.
The operation is underway.
