Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge criticized for wearing Louis Vuitton scarf: Know how much does the 'pricey' scarf cost?

Digital Desk: During today's debate in Parliament, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge drew more attention to himself than to his speech. Shehzad Poonawalla, the BJP's national spokesperson, chastised Kharge for wearing the Louis Vuitton scarf in Parliament.

Poonawall ridiculed Kharge on Twitter, drawing contrasts between his "expensive" sense of style and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's sustainably produced, Indian-made apparel. While Kharge garnered attention with his expensive Louis Vuitton scarf, Prime Minister Modi was seen sporting a half-sleeved light blue "sadri" jacket made of recycled plastic bottles.

Kharge's Louis Vuitton scarf, which he was seen wearing during today's Parliament session, is believed to be worth roughly Rs. 56,332, according to the brand's website. The scarf, on the other hand, is priced at $475 (about Rs 39,000) on Louis Vuitton's website, according to multiple tweets by internet users.

When the price of Kharge's LV scarf became public, online users instantly began a meme frenzy on social media. Poonawalla's remarks about Kharge's scarf come as other BJP officials criticize the Congressman for blaming PM Modi for the ongoing Adani problem.

During his address on the House floor, Mallikarjun Kharge stated: "In 2.5 years, the wealth of one of PM Modi's closest associates soared 13 times. It was Rs 50,000 crore in 2014, and it will be Rs 1 lakh crore in 2019. What happened to make assets worth Rs 12 lakh crores appear in two years? Is it because of friendship?"

The BJP has previously chastised Congress officials for wearing 'expensive' attire. The BJP brought up Rahul Gandhi's Burberry t-shirt, which reportedly cost more than Rs 41,000, in September of last year. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's outfit costs Rs 10 lakh," the Congress remarked.
