Digital Desk: Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the truth and the interests of the people against an "arrogant regime" that is using every trick in the book to silence the questions he is raising, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Friday, after the Gujarat High Court denied her brother's plea seeking a stay on his conviction in a criminal defamation case.
While dismissing the plea, Justice Hemant Prachchhak noted that Gandhi was already facing 10 criminal cases across India and that the lower court's decision to sentence Gandhi to two years in prison for his "Modi surname" remark was "just, proper, and legal."
Priyanka Gandhi made a harsh attack on the Modi government in a lengthy Twitter post in Hindi, quoting Ramdhari Singh 'Dinkar's poem "samar shesh hai...(battle is yet to be over)".
She stated that Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the truth and the interests of the people against an "arrogant regime."

"The arrogant regime wants questions related to people's interests not to be raised, the arrogant regime wants questions that improve the lives of the people of the country not to be raised, the arrogant regime wants they are not asked questions on inflation, employment, no voice is raised for the welfare of the farmers, there should be no talk of women's rights, the question of laborers' honor not to be raised," Priyanka Gandhi said.
"The arrogant regime is trying every trick in the book to suppress the truth; it is using all means—saam, daam, dand, bhed, chal, kapat (money power, punishment, discrimination, deceit)—to divert attention away from public-interest issues," she said.
Priyanka Gandhi asserted that in the face of truth, satyagraha, and the force of the people, neither the "arrogance of power" nor the veil of lies over the truth will last.
"Rahul Gandhi ji has ignited the beacon of questions related to the public's interests in front of this arrogant regime," she stated.
Rahul Gandhi is willing to pay any price for this cause, and despite the arrogant BJP government's attacks and tactics, he has not shied away from asking questions about the people, the Congress general secretary said.
Priyanka Gandhi stated that he is committed to share the people's pain.
"Truth will win. The voice of the people will triumph," she asserted.
The Congress has stated that it plans to file an appeal before the Supreme Court, challenging the Gujarat High Court's decision to dismiss Rahul Gandhi's plea for a stay of his conviction in the criminal defamation case stemming from his "Modi surname" remark.
