Cargo plane carrying cheetahs from Namibia lands in Gwalior; PM Modi to release them at Kuno National Park
On the occasion of PM Modi's birthday, a special cargo jet carrying eight cheetahs from Namibia made an early arrival at the Gwalior airport in Madhya Pradesh.

Digital Desk: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the cheetahs transported from Namibia at Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park. The special cargo plane transporting the eight cheetahs from Namibia's capital Windhoek landed at Gwalior airport in Madhya Pradesh at about 7.50 a.m. on September 17, which also happens to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.

Modi who turned 72years old today arrived at Gwalior airport from New Delhi around 9.20 a.m. and will depart for Kuno National Park in Sheopur district, about 165 kilometers away, where he will release the cheetahs into quarantine enclosures. Two male sibling cheetahs will be released in one quarantine area, while a female cheetah will be released in the neighboring enclosure.

The containment cages are 5030 meters in length, and there are six of them for eight big cats.

Meanwhile, the Congress party said on Friday that the 'Project Cheetah' proposal was prepared in 2008-09 and approved by the then-Manmohan Singh-led UPA administration.

According to the opposition party, the Supreme Court halted the project in 2013, before approving it in 2020, opening the path for the cheetahs' return.
