Digital Desk: At least 12 killed and over 20 injured after a speeding passenger bus with over 40 people aboard rammed into a stationary oil tanker leaving in Assam's Dergaon early on Wednesday morning.
As per the sources, the accident took place at around 5 am today Balijan village near Dergaon which falls under the Golaghat East tehsil of Assam's Golaghat district.
The group was en route to Bogibeel for a picnic, having left Bosaborholla village. It is stated that in addition to the picnic, they planned to visit the well-known Tilinga Mandir. On the route, though, the bus was involved in an accident.
"Today at roughly 3 in the morning, a party of forty-five persons left the village for a picnic and then headed to the Tilinga Mandir. Three or four members of the same family have reportedly been killed thus far. It's just heartbreaking," a villager remarked.
He went on, "The accident claimed the lives of almost 12 persons. The names of the deceased have not yet been disclosed to us. We hope those who have been injured recover well."

According to the latest reports, four to five of the thirty individuals who were hurt and taken to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) are still in serious condition, and two of them have passed away during treatment.
