Digital Desk: On Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that rain is expected to fall in the northeastern section of India, including Assam, from 20 to 24.

For various Assam districts on September 24, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati issued a yellow alert signifying thunder and lightning as well as heavy to very heavy rainfall.

It should be noted that on Tuesday night, Guwahati city saw strong rain, thunder, and lightning, which caused waterlogging in various areas of the city and backed up traffic.

"Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Northwest & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal, a Low-Pressure Area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal-Odisha coasts. Up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, an associated cyclonic circulation exists that tilts southwestward as it rises. During the next two days, it is predicted to move across North Odisha and South Jharkhand in a west-northwesterly direction. Assam could likely experience heavy rains and thunderstorms over the next two days due to this system's generally extensive to widely dispersed rainfall activity," the IMD reported in a special bulletin report on September 19, 2023.

"Strong low-level Southerly/Southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India are extremely likely to cause moisture intrusion starting on September 21. On September 21 and 22, 2023, Assam is anticipated to have extensive rainfall activity with heavy to very severe rainfall," it stated.
