AIUDF Reveals Backing for Various Parties and Extends Support to Opposition Candidates

AIUDF's general council meeting concluded with a decision to throw its support behind opposition candidates

Digital Desk: At a recent press conference held by the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), General Secretary Aminul Islam shed light on the party's strategies and observations regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Assam. Addressing various aspects of the political landscape, Islam provided valuable insights into the dynamics shaping the electoral battleground.

AIUDF's attempts to forge alliances with the Congress against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit a roadblock, as the Congress reportedly did not extend an invitation to join the opposition coalition. Despite this setback, the AIUDF remains determined to play a pivotal role in the elections.

In a significant move, AIUDF's general council meeting concluded with a decision to throw its support behind opposition candidates across several constituencies, except in Nagaon, Karimganj, and Dhubri, where AIUDF itself has candidates in the fray. Notably, the party expressed confidence in the strength of its candidate in Karimganj.

During the press conference, specific endorsements and assessments of various candidates emerged. AIUDF openly declared its support for BPF candidate Durga Das Boro in Darang-Odalguri, citing his strong candidacy. Conversely, Congress candidate Madhav Rajbanshi was deemed to have a weak base in the same constituency.

In other constituencies, such as Shillong and Barpeta, the AIUDF indicated its backing for Trinamool Congress candidate Radheshyam Biswas and CPI (M) candidate Manoranjan Talukdar, respectively. Notably, the absence of a significant Congress candidate base in Barpeta was highlighted.

AIUDF's confidence in incumbent MP Badruddin Ajmal's re-election in Dhubri was palpable, with Islam expressing assurance of victory by a significant margin, potentially surpassing 7/8 lakh votes, a feat that could make Ajmal the candidate with the highest vote tally nationwide.

Looking ahead, Islam expressed his desire to see candidates like Gaurav Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi emerge victorious in the first round of elections, underscoring AIUDF's hopes for their success.

With regards to other constituencies such as Guwahati and Kokrajhar, AIUDF remains vigilant, carefully weighing its options before extending its support.

As the electoral battle in Assam intensifies, the AIUDF's strategic endorsements and assessments are poised to influence the political landscape, shaping the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections in the region.
