    Sikkim govt hikes minimum wage by 67 percent

    Digital Desk: The minimum pay for unskilled workers in Sikkim increased by 67 percent on Wednesday, reaching Rs 500.

    According to Labour Minister Lok Nath Sharma, the daily wage for unskilled workers has increased from Rs 300 to Rs 500 with retroactive effect as of July 11, 2022.

    According to him, skilled workers will now receive Rs 535 per day instead of Rs 335 previously, while semi-skilled workers' daily pay has climbed from Rs 320 to Rs 520.

    Highly trained employees would now receive Rs 565 per day instead of Rs 365, according to Sharma.

    According to the Himalayan state's minister, these rates will be paid to workers at elevations up to 8,000 feet, while those working between 8,001 and 12,000 feet will receive 50% more pay.

    According to him, those who work between 12,001 and 16,000 feet above sea level will be paid 75% more than the average salary.

    Sharma stated that those who operate in locations over 16,001 feet will receive double the typical pay.

    The new rates would go into effect on July 11, 2022, and the labourers would receive arrears, he added.

    Rameswar Teli, the Union Minister of State for Labor, met with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Tuesday evening at Mintokgang and informed him that the Center would establish a 100-bed facility for ESIC beneficiaries, Sharma said.
