Digital Desk: The ICC Men's Player of the Month for September 2023 is India's star Shubman Gill, who dominated a run of One-Day Internationals ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

After accruing 480 ODI runs at an average of 80 in September, Gill defeated teammates Mohammed Siraj and England's starting opener Dawid Malan to claim the award.

The opener scored 302 runs at an average of 75.5 at the Asia Cup, including an unbeaten 27* when India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets.

With 178 runs in two innings against Australia, Gill continued his impressive tournament play as India prepared for the Cricket World Cup on home soil.

After reaching three figures against Bangladesh (121) during the Asia Cup two tons in September, the right-hander smashed a century against Australia (104) in the second of those ODIs.

Additionally, Gill scored three half-centuries in the previous month and was only out for less than fifty from eight innings on two occasions.

The 24-year-old is ranked No. 2 in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings and has a remarkable record in ODIs with 1917 runs in 35 matches at an average of 66.1 and a strike rate of 102.84.

Despite being unwell and missing India's opening matches of the Cricket World Cup, Gill is crucial to the chances of the hosts winning the championship for the first time since 2011.
