Former BCCI head selector MSK Prasad, the free-spirited Jadeja must have found the burden of captaincy too much to bear.
Digital Desk: Ravindra Jadeja surprised everyone by relinquishing his captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings to allow former captain, MS Dhoni, to return to the helm of the defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions.
As Dhoni had stepped down as a CSK captain before the IPL 2022 season to make way for Jadeja. However, the outcomes were unsatisfactory. Only two of CSK's first eight matches saw Jadeja lead them to victory.
CSK are now in ninth place in the 10-team league and is in danger of missing out on the playoffs.
In a statement made by CSK, Jadeja stated that he wanted to focus on his own game. "Ravindra Jadeja has opted to step down as captain to focus on his career and has asked MS Dhoni to lead CSK.
"According to the statement, MS Dhoni has agreed to head CSK in the long run, allowing Jadeja to concentrate on his game.
Former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad commented on the incident, telling NDTV that the free-spirited Jadeja may have thought the burden of captaincy was too much for him to handle.
The BCCI selector said, "I believe he believed his individual performance was harmed due to his captaincy responsibility. If you look at his performances over the last few years, you'll notice that they've become better. "Jadeja may not have wanted the additional burden of captaincy to damage his game at this juncture of his career," Prasad served as the BCCI top selector from September 2016 to March 2020.
Prasad stated that "Knowing who Jadeja is, he wants to be able to play freely." He may have believed that captaincy should have no bearing on the game. I believe Jadeja has made a courageous decision to better contribute to the team's cause as a player. Giving up the captaincy takes a lot of guts.
