Digital Desk: VVS Laxman, a former India batsman and current head of the National Cricket Academy, is likely to be appointed as coach of the Indian squad that will face Ireland in two T20Is in late June. Reportedly, Laxman will be filling in for head coach Rahul Dravid, who will be accompanying the Test team to a warm-up match against English county side Leicestershire at the same time as part of preparations for the rescheduled fifth Test against England, which will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham from July 1 to 5.
The Indian team has a busy summer calendar, beginning with a five-match home T20I series against South Africa from June 9 to 19. On the 26th and 28th of June, they will play Ireland in two T20s matches.
Notably, when Dravid was with the Test team for the series against England, he filled in for former India head coach Ravi Shastri. Dravid was coaching a youthful Indian team on a limited-overs tour in Sri Lanka at the time.
India leads England 2-1 in the five-match Test series. Last year's final Test had to be cancelled because of the covid-19 outbreak in the visitors' camp. The fifth Test will be played in 2022, according to the Indian and English cricket boards.
India's first series win in England since 2007 would come with a win or a tie in this match. On that tour, Rahul Dravid led the Indian team as captain.
